Supraventricular tachycardia: diagnosis and current acute management.

چکیده
There is a small but potentially avoidable incidence of death associated with childhood supraventricular tachycardia.1 2 The time of greatest risk is when the child presents for the first time and requires therapeutic intervention. Infants and children tolerate arrhythmias less well than adults as they are more dependent on heart rate for cardiac output and have less reserve.3 4 They are also at risk from drugs given as treatment.5 We discuss our current acute management of supraventricular tachycardia.

Emergency diagnosis and management of common pediatric tachyarrhythmia
Tachycardia is common in the pediatric age group. The most commonly seen arrhythmias in children are sinus tachycardia. However, supraventricular tachycardia is the most common tachyarrhythmia that necessitates treatment. Ventricular tachycardia is rare in healthy children but may be associated with sudden cardiac death. The important risk factors that predispose children for arrhythmias inclu...
متن کاملA Case Report of Neonatal Atrial Flutter with Poor Feeding and Tachypnea
Background: Arrhythmias in neonates are not common and usually affect newborns with a normal heart or those that suffer from structural heart disease. A malignant type of arrhythmias is supraventricular tachycardia. Meanwhile, one uncommon type of supraventricular arrhythmias is atrial flutter (AFL), which is founded upon reentry mechanisms in the atrium. The AFL may result in heart failure or ...
متن کاملSHORT REPORT Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia: improving diagnosis and management within the accident and emergency department
Accident and emergency (A&E) senior house offices (SHOs) have difficulties in interpreting the electrocardiogram (ECG) in narrow complex tachycardia. Correct ECG interpretation is fundamental to patient management in paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. This study aimed to assess the ability of A&E SHOs to interpret the ECG in this setting. Correct diagnosis in 63% of cases improved to 86% ...

متن کاملCommon types of supraventricular tachycardia: diagnosis and management.
The most common types of supraventricular tachycardia are caused by a reentry phenomenon producing accelerated heart rates. Symptoms may include palpitations (pulsation in the neck), chest pain, lightheadedness or dizziness, and dyspnea. It is unusual for supraventricular tachycardia to be caused by structurally abnormal hearts. Diagnosis is often delayed because of the misdiagnosis of anxiety ...
